Where Creativity + Intelligent Design = Superior Products!
“Great Engineering is the Art of Intelligent Compromise” – Dan Watts
6 Keys to Great Product Design
1. Clearly define the #1 priority for the design (Lowest weight possible, Smallest size possible, Lowest cost possible, Reliability in a harsh environment). This sound obvious but is often the hardest thing to define and agree upon.
2. Divide project into bite-sized and manageable pieces with specific milestones.
3. Find any limiting factors to success as early as possible with simple proof-of-concept prototyping when necessary.
4. Everyone knows to specify what IS NEEDED/REQUIRED for a design but often defining what IS NOT NEEDED can be of even greater importance. This can open up a whole new set of possible solutions or directions to solve a challenging design problem.
5. Pick the right leader and team for the job.
6. Be daring but realistic about the goals and schedule.
